CoinMarketCap launches “Killer Whales” reality show inspired by Shark Tank

CoinMarketCap, a leading crypto price tracking website, is venturing into reality television by launching a new competition series called “Killer Whales.” Drawing inspiration from the popular TV show “Shark Tank,” the program is being developed in collaboration with Web3 entertainment firm Hello Labs.

Crypto entrepreneurs to pitch ideas to Web3 industry experts

The new show will provide a platform for entrepreneurs to pitch their projects to a panel of “Killer Whale” judges comprising entrepreneurs, influencers, and founders of Web3 companies.

Hello Labs, the partnering company, was founded by Paul Caslin, the producer of the MTV VMA Awards. Jonathan Isaac, Chief Marketing Officer at CoinMarketCap, expressed his excitement about the show in a press release, stating that “Killer Whales” will bring the entrepreneurial spirit of the Web3 space to viewers worldwide.

Starting May 2, interested participants can submit their applications through Hello.one and CoinMarketCap. Selected applicants will undergo several interview rounds in Hollywood, California. Filming is scheduled to begin in June, with the show set to be released on major streaming platforms and Hello Labs’ on-demand Hello TV service.

Hello Labs’ CEO, Sander Gortjes, explained that the company aims to introduce the next billion users to Web3 by entertaining and educating them about crypto.

The growing presence of crypto and Web3 in entertainment

The launch of “Killer Whales” and other Web3-related television shows reflects the increasing interest in blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies among mainstream media consumers. Dan Harmon, co-creator of “Rick and Morty,” is set to release a show called “Krapopolis” on Fox in 2023, which introduced its Krap Chicken non-fungible token (NFT) collection in August.

Additionally, other NFT collections are looking to expand their intellectual property (IP) across various media formats. Web3 community NounsDAO has greenlit proposals for a feature-length film and TV series. At the same time, the NFT collection Doodles recently acquired the Emmy-nominated animation studio, Golden Wolf.
