Binance Launches AI-Based NFT Generator ‘Bixel’, Gives Requirements for Getting Access to Tool
The non-fungible token (NFT) arm of crypto exchange Binance may have just announced the launch of its NFT generator called “Bixel”. According to the announcement, Bixel – a tool powered by artificial intelligence (AI) – will allow users to create custom artwork using AI technology.
Binance Users to Access ‘Bixel’ Permanently
Binance revealed on Wednesday that users now have permanent access to the tool. That is even as they use it to generate unique digital art and gain entry into the global NFT space. But while users have 10 chances daily to produce art for free, there might be some limitations. Per the announcement, users must first comply with the platform’s know-your-customer (KYC) rule by completing the identity verification. In its explanation, Binance claimed that the reason for this is to create a generally safe space for everyone. Part of the statement reads:
“This critical measure is in place to maintain a trustworthy and secure platform for all users, aligning with best practices and regulatory requirements.”
For those who might want to mint NFTs, however, they must pay a minting fee of 0.008 BNB ($1.9) before they can use Bixel. According to Binance, this fee will ensure a smoothly-run NFT creation process on the BNB Smart Chain. Recall that Binance launched a beta version of the AI NFT generator on March 1. That version was called “Bicasso”, and became an immediate success. Barely two and a half hours after launch, the test version reached its full capacity. And within the same period, Bicasso also achieved the maximum minting limit of 10,000 NFTs.
Despite the huge success recorded, however, some negative reactions soon followed. Binance received a heavy backlash for allegedly stealing the AI NFT generator idea from BNB Chain hackathon winners. A member of the community identified as Ggoma called out Binance on March 2, claiming that Bicasso was a simple copy of a project he was a part of. Ggoma said his project, “Chatcasso”, had won first prize at the BNB Chain hackathon that was held in Seoul last December.
Meanwhile, Binance has since denied the allegations. In its counterclaim, the exchange insisted that Bicasso had been developed independently about two weeks before the hackathon.
