Chromia Partners With Chasm Network to Accelerate Decentralized AI Innovation

Relational Layer 1 blockchain Chromia has announced a strategic partnership with Chasm Network, the leading distributed AI inferencing network. Part partnership, part investment in Chromia, the collaboration will see Chasm work closely with the Chromia team to expand use cases for AI on the Layer 1 blockchain.

The partnership makes a lot of sense from a technical perspective given that Chromia’s architecture is designed for efficiently delivering blockchain data for dapps that will one day require terabytes and then exabytes of the stuff. AI-focused dapps are likely to be the primary drivers of this insatiable demand for onchain data.

Chasm Brings AI Inferencing to Chromia

Chasm is in the business of AI inference: the first step in training AI models through feeding them inputs and outputs to make them better at pattern recognition. Its distributed AI inference network aims to offer a more cost-effective solution that utilizes various specialized intelligence models for optimum results.

While Chasm’s AI service operates on Ethereum L2 Mantle, it intends to use Chromia as the primary database layer for storing AI inference data. This hybrid solution will enable Chasm to make use of Chromia’s superior database handling capabilities while benefiting from Mantle’s EVM connectivity, where the Chasm token will be deployed. Chasm opML Database is the name for the Chromia dapp Chasm has created to ensure the verifiability of sources used in AI decision-making processes.

While Chromia’s L1 is ideally suited to AI-focused applications, it’s by no means the only use case for its relational blockchain. In recent weeks, Chromia has announced new projects that are building on it ranging from RWAs to blockchain gaming. My Neighbour Alice is bringing its blockchain builder game to Chromia, while real world assets will be developed courtesy of Phlomis Finance. These early adopters will serve as early demonstrations of what Chromia’s tech is capable of. Their success will play a pivotal role in convincing other projects to build on Chromia.

Making AI Work at Scale

Web3 and AI have proven to be an ideal fit, with the former expanding access to a technology widely regarded as the most powerful invention since the internet itself. Onchain dapps are typically interacting with AI in two key ways. From an end-user perspective, they’re proving their ability to enhance trading through AI assistants that can facilitate smarter and faster decision-making.

From an infrastructure perspective, meanwhile, dapps are being deployed that democratize access to AI assets such as GPU compute and LLM training data. Emerging blockchains such as Chromia have been swift to identify the upside to optimizing for AI use cases and establishing themselves as a primary driver of a sector predicted to be worth hundreds of billions of dollars within the next five years.

One of Chromia’s greatest value propositions is its use of relational databases that make much better use of data compared to incumbent blockchains. Relational databases are structured to efficiently retrieve data on demand, with Chromia capable of performing hundreds of read-and-write transactions within a single transaction.
