Former United States president Donald Trump has announced a new NFT collection called the “Mugshot Edition” in an apparent nod to his ongoing legal troubles.
The latest collection has dramatically impacted the prices of the NFTs previously issued by Trump, rebounding considerably from their recent lows.
The Mugshot Edition
Individuals who purchase 47 Trump cards or more will get to have dinner with the former United States president at his Mar-a-Lago residence. They will also receive a piece of the suit Trump wore for his mugshot when he was last arrested in August. Purchasing 47 cards is significant because if elected next year, Trump would become the 47th US president. The new collection, released on Tuesday, consists of 100,000 cards priced at $99 each. It also consists of 2024 limited edition physical cards with different rarities. These will also be mailed to individuals who purchase 47 cards or more in a single transaction.
The first 200 people to purchase 100 cards using crypto will also receive another bonus offer: A one-of-one NFT, two tickets for a cocktail reception with the former president, and a second physical card that features pieces of both the suit and tie, along with two “Commemorative Dinner” cards.
“In this Edition, some cards will even be one-of-ones (the only one in the world), while some others could even be hand-signed by President Donald J. Trump. These rare cards will be randomly awarded.”
The collection is a nod to Trump being booked and photographed at the Fulton County jail in Atlanta after the former president was indicted on felony charges related to attempting to overturn his 2020 election loss in Georgia. Trump has pleaded not guilty to all charges, which include solicitation of the violation of an oath by a public officer, racketeering, and a host of other charges. Trump was charged along with 18 other defendants, including four who have taken plea deals.
Previous NFT Collection
The former president announced the first line of his limited edition NFT collection for $99 a piece after teasing a major announcement on Truth Social with a message suggesting that America needed a new superhero.
“GET YOUR CARDS NOW! Only $99 each! Would make a great Christmas gift. Don’t Wait. They will be gone, I believe, very quickly!”
The collection sold out within a day, netting Trump around $4.6 million in less than five hours. The announcement regarding the Mugshot Edition NFT collection also had a considerable impact on the price of previous NFTs issued by Trump. The NFTs were trading for as low as 0.1 ETH, half the price that they were trading at before the announcement. However, following the announcement, floor prices significantly increased, rebounding to 0.18 ETH, according to data from NFT marketplace OpenSea.
Despite being critical of crypto and NFTs when he was president, Trump forayed into the NFT market with the launch of the Trump Digital Collectible Cards, which sported images of himself. Trump issued a second collection in April, which also quickly sold out. According to official documents, Trump held around $2.8 million in a crypto wallet, primarily earned through NFT sales.
