Artificial intelligence is unleashing a whole new era of technological revolution, and it’s progressing so quickly.
AI technology has been gradually permeating different sectors of the world, unlocking new technological possibilities. And with the look of things, it is bound to become a big part of our lives going forward.
At the ongoing GITEX Global 2023 tech conference hosted in Dubai, thousands of tech executives and exhibitors gathered to discuss the boundaries of the AI economy and its role in shaping the future of technological advancements on the planet.
Some of the highlights at the GITEX conference on the second day were centred on how AI technology is transforming the future of mobility with autonomous vehicles.
Autonomous Cars are Taking Over
Driverless cars are growing at a fast pace, and they are continuously being trialled around the world, including in the United Arab Emirates. Dr. Leo Wang, a co-founder of an $8.5 billion Toyota-backed robotaxi unicorn Pony.ai, spoke on how the market potential is increasing rapidly in the face of competition.
“Competition is always welcome because the technology and the market potential are progressing much faster. So, you don’t want to be the only player in the field; you want a diverse field so we can all progress together,” said Wang, who also envisions expanding to the UAE due to its business-friendly environment.
50% of Smart Cities Have Embraced AI
In addition to autonomous vehicles, the GITEX conference also hosted discussions on the future of smart cities. Presently, more than 50% of smart cities have embraced AI with 5G technology, unlocking faster and more reliable communication for connected devices.
However, this feat has also led to some concerns about how to manage potential cybersecurity risks, data privacy concerns and interoperability issues. Outside of this were also discussions on the critical motives for achieving net zero goals as early as possible due to population growth.
