The XRP community spotlighted an old comment made by Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin about XRP. Notably, Buterin’s praise for XRP was recently returned to the limelight by Steven Nerayoff, a former Ethereum advisor. However, this comment by Buterin had been previously deleted, leaving traces of the statement in the public domain.
Moreover, Buterin’s erased remark had yet to escape the eyes of the XRP community. Prominent XRP influencer Crypto Eri echoed the sentiment by noting the positive commentary from Buterin on XRP. Interestingly, this isn’t the first time the Ethereum founder has shared his views on digital assets.
In 2019, Pierre Rochard, VP of Research at Bitcoin mining firm Riot Platforms, took to the digital space to emphasize Bitcoin’s qualities. Rochard opined that Bitcoin represented the epitome of sound money, making it the ideal stablecoin and store of value.
However, in response to Rochard’s view, Buterin suggested an alternative. He posited that XRP might be a better fit. He highlighted that the XRP price chart would demonstrate similar characteristics to Bitcoin. Additionally, Buterin pointed out that XRP’s strength came from its institutional adoption and partnerships within the cryptocurrency industry. Consequently, he indicated that this made XRP a more appealing choice.
Significantly, there’s been some debate around Buterin’s intentions with his statement. Some believe Buterin’s comment might have been tinged with sarcasm, especially due to the trademark signs he included with phrases like “institutional adoption” and “partnerships”. However, this interpretation remains a matter of conjecture.
The relationship between Buterin and the XRP community has had its fair share of tension. This strain was evident when Buterin mentioned that Ripple might not merit support against the SEC. His reasoning was based on allegations that Ripple attempted to paint Ethereum as “Chinese-controlled”. In a video released last year, Buterin underscored his belief that XRP was centralized.
