Gemini assures customers of secure accounts despite third-party breaches

Gemini recently announced that it had identified a phishing campaign targeting users in the UK and Europe, attributing it to two third-party vendor incidents. In these attacks, scammers used emails and websites imitating Gemini’s branding. The company has assured its customers that no account information or systems have been affected, reiterating that all customer accounts remain secure.

Gemini recently informed customers of two security incidents in which bad actors obtained personal information, including names, email addresses, and truncated (partial) phone numbers from two third-party vendors the exchange uses. Also, the firm had previously reported one of these scams; the other incident occurred last fall and was revealed recently.

The company has urged customers to remain vigilant and take necessary steps to protect their accounts. In addition, Gemini is taking measures to enhance security. They also affirmed that they would continue to update their customers about any new developments related to this incident.

We understand that these incidents may be part of a broader attack on crypto platforms by this group of bad actors,” Gemini said in an email. The UK Information Commissioner’s Office and the Irish Data Protection Commissioner have been informed about these security breaches.
