Media Empire Fox Corporation Taps Polygon Blockchain To Power New Verification System

Fox Corporation is tapping into the Polygon (MATIC) ecosystem as part of a new protocol for media provenance.

In a new announcement, Polygon Labs says they are partnering with the media giant to launch Verify, a system that uses the transparency of blockchain to prove the authenticity and identity of media content in the age of artificial intelligence (AI) and deepfakes.

“Today, Fox Corporation has taken a step to address this issue, publicly releasing a beta version of Verify, an open source protocol meant to establish the history and origin of registered media, and built on Polygon PoS.

On Verify, publishers can register content to prove origination. Individual pieces of content are cryptographically signed onchain, allowing consumers to identify content from trusted sources using the Verify Tool.

Fox Corp launched a closed beta of Verify on August 23, coinciding with the first Fox News GOP debate. To date, 89,000 pieces of content, spanning text and images, have been signed to Verify, from Fox News, Fox Business, Fox Sports, and Fox TV affiliates.”

The announcement highlights advancements in AI technology, which have led to the proliferation of AI-generated content in various forms such as articles, audio, and images, which has also brought about challenges in ensuring the authenticity of such content.

To address this issue, researchers at Polygon Labs have been working on constructing a fundamental blockchain infrastructure that will enable transparent verification of the integrity of AI-generated content.

“Verify was developed in-house by the Fox Technology team and is built on Polygon PoS due to its fast, easy, and affordable transactions.

With this technology, readers will know for sure that an article or image that purportedly comes from a publisher in fact originated at the source.

Additionally, Verify establishes a technical bridge between media companies and AI platforms. With its Verified Access Point, Verify creates new commercial opportunities for content owners by utilizing smart contracts to set programmatic conditions for access to content.”

Polygon says Verify is open-source and will help both individuals and corporations verify the validity of content.
