Mortal Kombat co-creator hints at new Kameo fighters, including Chucky and Invincible

Ed Boon, co-creator of Mortal Kombat, has teased that new Kameo fighters could be coming to Mortal Kombat 1, with horror icon Chucky and superhero Invincible among them. This comes after fans were concerned that the game’s upcoming expansion, Khaos Reigns, might not feature any more Kameo characters.

Following the announcement of Mortal Kombat 1’s second round of DLC content – titled ‘Khaos Reigns’ – many fans were left wondering if there would be any new additions in terms of fighters from other fictional universes (known as ‘Kameo’ characters). However, Boon recently took to Twitter where he shared a poll that seems to suggest that they are indeed working on adding some for the next expansion. The poll also named two potential candidates for these new additions: Chucky from Child’s Play and Mark Grayson from Invincible.

Chucky and Invincible set to join Mortal Kombat 1’s Kameo lineup

Boon’s tweet didn’t just let fans know that they are considering new Kameo fighters but also hinted that Chucky and Invincible may be coming to the Mortal Kombat universe. The horror icon has been a popular fan pick since the game was announced because of his recognizable look and small size, which might relegate him to cameo status rather than a full roster spot. On the other hand, it seems only fitting to include Invincible considering another character from his universe, Omni-Man, is already in Mortal Kombat 1.

Boon’s poll also mentioned Mortal Kombat X’s Blanche (the old lady who could be thrown at opponents) and Kidd Thunder (a character featured in Raiden’s Friendship move from Mortal Kombat 2 and Mortal Kombat 11). The fact that these two were included suggests that parts of the Khaos Reigns expansion may have a more whimsical tone than others.

New Kameo fighters are still in the planning phase

Though these teases have gotten the fanbase excited, it seems that these new Kameo fighters are still very much in development. Boon’s comments suggest the characters aren’t even at the decision stage yet, so who will be included is still up in the air. This means they may not be ready for launch with Khaos Reigns, but could come later in the year as part of Mortal Kombat 1’s ongoing DLC content.

With Mortal Kombat 1 continuing to add to its roster of Kameo options, fans can expect more updates from Boon and NetherRealm Studios soon. The possibility of seeing characters like Chucky and Invincible thrown down has layered yet another level of anticipation onto an already highly-anticipated Khaos Reigns expansion.
