The computer processor maker Intel has said that it has hit another milestone in AI as more than 500 AI models are now optimized with its Core Ultra processors, which are the premium AI PC processors available on the market.

Intel said that it was made possible as Intel invested in client AI, framework optimizations, the AI PC transformation, and AI tools, including the OpenVINO toolkit. The popular industry resources like Hugging Face, Py Torch, OpenVINO Model Zoo, and ONNX Model Zoo are all providing services based on these 500, which can be deployed across the graphic processing unit (GPU), central processing unit (CPU), and neural processing unit (NPU).
The models can be categorized into different categories of large language, image classification and segmentation, local AI inference, object detection, computer vision, and 15 others.
The vice president and AI and technical marketing manager of Intel, Robert Hallock, celebrated the milestone achievement and said,
“Intel has a rich history of working with the ecosystem to bring AI applications to client devices, and today we celebrate another strong chapter in the heritage of client AI by surpassing 500 pre-trained AI models running optimized on Intel Core Ultra processors.”
He added further,
“This unmatched selection reflects our commitment to building not only the PC industry’s most robust toolchain for AI developers, but a rock-solid foundation AI software users can implicitly trust.”

According to the company, the AI models utilizing these processors are working in around 20 different categories of AI that include large language, diffusion, and many others. They include Phi-2, Stable Diffusion 1.5, Bert, Mistral, Whisper, and Llama.
More sales than any competitor
Intel highlighted that its Core Ultra processor is the fastest-selling AI PC processor, and it has sold more of these in one quarter if compared to the processors by competitors, which they sold over the entire year of 2023. Intel also mentioned that it is the most solid platform for AI PC development as it now has a practical usability record with more AI models running on it than any other processor maker, along with frameworks and runtimes also enabled.
Intel also noted the importance of optimization embedding efforts, as these models are the base of artificial intelligence software that is used for features like summarizing texts, object removal in images, and image super-resolution.
Intel clarified that without a model, an AI feature cannot be designed, and without runtime optimization, no feature can reach its peak performance, which basically means that the number of optimized AI models and the number of user-facing AI features that can be introduced in the market have a direct connection.
Intel said its continuous work in semiconductors is the reason that these models set their backbone on the Intel Core Ultra processor, which offers innovation possibilities for software developers and also makes it simple for the delivery of AI applications and features to users.
