The company announced the launch of the new AI technology, named in honor of the famous German mathematician and physicist Carl Friedrich Gauss, during the annual Samsung AI Forum hosted in Seoul on Wednesday, November 8.

Text Generation, Coding and Image Enhancement

According to the company, the AI tool was developed by Samsung Research, the company’s dedicated research division, and it consists of three integral components – Samsung Gauss Language, Samsung Gauss Code, and Samsung Gauss Image.

The company described the first component as a generative language model designed to enhance work efficiency within companies. Additionally, the tool aids in tasks such as email composition, document summarization, and translation.

However, its impact extends beyond the workplace, potentially enhancing the consumer experience by enabling smarter device control. It also caters to both cloud-based and on-device applications.

While the first component is focused on text generation, the Samsung Gauss Code is designed as a coding assistant to software developers. The tool was built to streamline in-house software development for corporate institutions.

According to Samsung, developers can benefit from an interactive interface offered by the “Gauss Code” that supports code description and test case generation functions to build corporate applications tailored to their needs.

The third component, the ‘Gauss Image,’ is dedicated to generating and editing images. Users can easily add style changes and even convert low-resolution images to high-resolution through the tool.

The company said the feature is poised to revolutionize image editing capabilities, serving both professionals and enthusiasts with its versatile visual content manipulation tools.

Samsung also disclosed that its new AI tool is already being used within the company to boost employee productivity. The electronics giant also plans to expand its applications to various product functionalities in the future.

Privacy and Security

Samsung has established an AI Red Team to address privacy and security concerns. This specialized unit rigorously examines security and privacy matters at every phase of AI implementation. From the initial stages of data collection to the final deployment of services, the company leaves no stone unturned to address potential safety concerns.

To ensure the highest safety standards, the company said that all user data during interaction with the chatbot will be stored directly on the user’s phone.

Meanwhile, the launch of Samsung Gauss comes a few days after the company introduced a real-time call translation service using AI technology in its upcoming Galaxy flagship model, Samsung’s GalaxyAI, slated for an early launch next year.

The company claimed the feature would make conversing across languages as effortless as “turning on closed captions,” offering seamless translation in both audio and text formats during live conversations.
