Shiba Inu Team Warns about Potential Scams Linked to Upcoming TREAT Token and Shiba Inu Ecosystem
The Shiba Inu team, including lead developer Shytoshi Kusama, warned the SHIB community about a possible risk associated with a link in a recent article published by cryptocurrency trading platform Crypto.com.
The trading platform provided a detailed guide for beginners about the Shiba Inu ecosystem. The article covered existing tokens like SHIB, Bone, and Doge Killer (LEASH). It also discussed the upcoming tokenTREAT. Additionally, it went deeper, explaining other parts of the Shiba Inu ecosystem, such as the Shibarium blockchain, the ShibaSwap exchange, the SHIBOSHIS, and the Shiba Eternity and SHIB.
Although the Shiba Inu team initially praised the article as a great guide for beginners, not long after, ShibArmy Scam Alerts, an account dedicated to exposing scams and protecting the Shiba community, discovered an error: the article had a link to a TREAT token site that is not associated with the Shiba Inu team. It was probably a fake website made by scammers.
Shiba Inu confirmed the error made by Crypto.com on their official X page, and they advised community members to stay vigilant and ensure they verify every link before clicking. The team also said they would contact Crypto.com to fix the error and keep readers safe. They wrote:
“Cryptocom account shared the wrong link for the $TREAT token. Please verify links before clicking. We’re reaching out to them to fix this ASAP… Be #ShibaSmart: Always verify links on http://shib.io & our official channels before clicking.”
Similarly, the lead developer of Shiba Inu, Shytoshi Kusama, expressed his sadness over the error made by the trading firm. He revealed on his X page that Crypto.com wrote about the TREAT token, which has not been launched yet. He further warned the SHIB community to be cautious with other TREAT token dealings as the bad actors could devise different scamming methods for people. Kusama stated:
“Sadly cryptocom wrote about our TREAT token that is not yet launched, assuming incorrectly that it was. Proceed with caution with this other Treat token (and many other spoofs that will inevitably be created to scam you).”
The TREAT token is planned to launch in the next few months. It will come with a new Shiba Inu layer-3 blockchain that is still being worked on. The token is expected to serve multiple purposes within the Shiba Inu ecosystem. The Shiba Inu team has not shared the name of the upcoming blockchain to prevent members from getting scammed.
Another Shytoshi Kusama Impersonation Scam
While the article error has been rectified, Shibarmy Scam Alerts have noticed another defrauding scheme that is going around on Telegram, as bad actors are impersonating Shytoshi Kusama and asking for funds. The crypto company has therefore warned members to be cautious of such people.
“Watch out for scammers on Telegram impersonating Shytoshi Kusama and asking you for funds. Kusama will never request funds from you. Stay SAFE,” the company wrote.
