Mysten Labs recently partnered with Playtron to release a gaming handheld for Web3 called SuiPlay OX1.
Its first looks were revealed in Paris at the Sui Basecamp. The goal of this partnership will be to set up a big market for Web3 gaming. This brings the power of P2E games right within every Web3 gamer’s hands with portability and accessibility.
It might be possible that the future of gaming in Web3 is predominantly handheld. A Hong Kong company called Ordz Games also recently unveiled a retro gaming console integrated with Bitcoin called BitBoy. But why is there so much hype around handheld?

Playtron recently responded with, “Yes! The future is weird. Embrace it” to a tweet from the CEO of Helius regarding SuiPlay 0X1. It further mentioned that gaming consoles of today have followed the same playbook for two decades and hence face many challenges.
According to a market research study, the handheld gaming market size will reach $9,660.1 million in 2024. And it will be $35189 million by 2034. If we factor in the growing interest in Web3 games, it is safe to say that a big chunk of this market will belong to handheld Web3 gaming consoles. The potential is certainly there for big players to enter this market and take the benefit of.
The features of SuiPlay OX1
SuiPlay OX1 will let you earn rewards and badges for both Web2 and Web3 games. Based on what we already know, you can play existing mobile and PC games on this console with a unified launcher. This means that you will be able to access Epic Games Store and Steam games as well. And of course, since it is integrated with the blockchain, you can fully own your in-game assets from Web3 games.
