Ubisoft announced on X that the Watch Dogs movie filming had begun. The post simply showed a photo of a clapper board with the movie title and the caption ‘Lights_Camera_Action.exe.’ Ubisoft, a video game developer and publisher, is yet to release more details about the movie or its plot beyond the game.

Since Watch Dogs is a video game focused on hacking, many speculated about the man behind a computer on the Ubisoft X post. However, since Ubisoft has not disclosed anything about the plot, many have speculated whether the movie will follow the same storyline. According to Culture Crave on X, the Watch Dogs movie setting will be in the same universe as the game.
Watch Dogs game fans first expected the video game’s adaptation to start production in 2014. Over 10 years down the line, people showed mixed reactions about Watch Dogs’ production on X, with some commenting, “Are they still trying to make this?” Others had a more positive outlook, hoping the movie would be great.
Ubisoft announces Watch Dogs’ cast and director
Ubisoft revealed the Watch Dogs movie cast and director in its blog post. The blog mentioned French director Mathieu Turi as the director behind Watch Dogs. The clapper board on Ubisoft’s X post also confirmed this news, highlighting the top cinematographer, Daniele Massaccesi.

The French director Mathieu Turi is well-known for directing movies like The Deep Dark, Hostile, Meander, and more. Since these announcements, multiple profiling websites updated his works, indicating him as Watch Dogs director.
Ubisoft mentioned New Regency as the film production company behind Watch Dogs. New Regency provided two producers for Watch Dogs, Natalie Lehmann and Yariv Milchan. Ubisoft Film & TV also has its producer on board, Margaret Boykin. Christie LeBlanc and Victoria Bata handled Watch Dogs’ screenplay.
New Regency posted on X that actor Tom Blythe and actress Sophie Wilde would star in Watch Dogs. Tom Blythe is featured in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, while Sophie Wilde is known for being featured in Talk to Me.
Ubisoft focuses on other developments
Ubisoft has been making headlines this year due to Assassin’s Creed Shadows and XDefiant. While Assassin’s Creed Shadows has yet to launch, XDefiant has made significant strides since its launch on May 21. The first-person shooter game acquired over 11 million players a little over a month after its launch.
Let’s look at XDefiant. There’s a lot of work to do, but it was able to attract 11 million players in a short time.
Yves Guillemot, also hinted at multiple remakes of Assassin’s Creed games. While he did not reveal the titles, he promised fans many games this year and in the future.
