Ubisoft Unveils ‘Champions Tactics’ Ethereum NFTs, Announces Free Mint Date
Ubisoft’s first original blockchain game Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles, is set to begin a free mint in a few days. According to a recent announcement, mint for the game’s “Warlords” will go live on December 18. However, a private mint, set for 6 am ET on the day, will come before the general mint which is slated to open by 2 pm ET the same Monday.
It might be important to note that Ubisoft is doing things a little differently than others with its mint plans. That is because an NFT mint is supposed to be the primary sale for a project, as has been the case with most NFT launches.
However, Ubisoft begs to differ and has offered up 8,000 Champions Tactics Warlord NFTs for people to freely mint.
Champions Tactics NFTs in Details
The so-called Warlords from the game are weapon-bearing pixelated heroes that have been designed like social media profile picture (PFP) NFTs.
Once the mint goes live, collectors just have to pay Ethereum network gas fees to mint the NFTs, says the Assassin’s Creed maker. They may then use the minted NFTs as their account avatar during gameplay.
Ubisoft also revealed further plans for a future mint of some of its in-game characters. However, the company claims that this future mint will only be accessible to gamers in possession of the Warlord NFT. At that time, such Warlord NFT owners will be able to mint five Champions Tactics characters for free. The date for the later mint will be communicated at the appropriate time, says the company.
Ubisoft intends to deploy the Warlords NFTs on Ethereum. However, the Champions Tactics game itself will launch on a separate chain Oasys.
For what it’s worth, Ubisoft plans for a total of 9,999 Warlords NFTs to be minted. The company claims to have an additional 1,000 that it plans to give out to the Oasys community. It also has an extra 999 that it will hold on to for future marketing promotional and marketing purposes.
Champions Tactics was first announced in June 2023. However, it is not expected to launch on PC until early 2024.
Blockchain Gaming on the Move
It is worth mentioning that Ubisoft has been keen on playing a prominent role in the popularity of blockchain gaming. So, the Champions Tactics game is not its first attempt in that line. The company first caused a stir in the gaming world in late 2021 when it announced its plans to launch limited edition NFT-based items on the Tezos blockchain. That is for the PC version of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint.
It has since continued to forge notable partnerships in the Web3 space, including releasing its Rabbids characters in The Sandbox, an Ethereum metaverse game.
This year, Ubisoft has launched the Assassin’s Creed NFT collection after partnering with Integral Reality Labs.
