X integrates Grok AI to enhance user experience and engagement

X, previously known as Twitter, is preparing to embed its AI chatbot, Grok, more deeply into the platform. This comes in the wake of app researcher Nima Owji finding coded references to the plans of X website for the further incorporation of Grok. These features are not yet available to the public.

Like the existing structure, the new Grok features will probably be behind a paywall. At first, only the users who subscribed to the $16 per month Premium+ plan could use Grok. However, X has recently opened Grok for those who are subscribed to the $8 X Premium plan. This strategy implies that X will maintain the generation of revenues from the AI products through the use of the tiered subscription model.

Three major Grok-powered features set to launch on X

Owji’s research indicates that X plans to launch three significant new features utilizing Grok. First, X Premium and Premium+ subscribers will be able to make a specific text fragment stand out on the platform and ask Grok a question about this text in a pop-up window without leaving the page. This feature was identified when there was code that appeared as an “Ask Grok” prompt when the text was selected.

Second, X will incorporate a ‘More about this account’ section. The paying users will be able to request information about particular X accounts from Grok with the help of a button on the user’s profile card. This will enable one to get more information without having to exit the profile section.

Third, the “Grok drawer” will allow the subscribers to access Grok from any part of the platform. This feature will enable an AI chatbot window to be positioned on top of the X interface and be reachable no matter the page the user is on.

These features show a well-thought-out approach to integrating Grok throughout the platform, which signifies that AI is going to be a major component of the user interface. Musk’s vision is evident: to weave AI into the very fabric of X, the users should be able to naturally involve Grok.

Grok spreads misinformation in explore tab news summaries

Despite these ambitious plans, Grok has encountered numerous problems. In April, X relaunched its Explore tab, which now relies on Grok to generate news headlines and summaries based on topics of interest. However, Grok has already spread false information.

For instance, it created a news item stating that Iran had fired missiles at Tel Aviv, Israel. Another incident was when Grok made up a report that NYPD encountered an earthquake in NYC subways due to jokes posted by users. These instances exemplify the problems with Grok’s precision and dependability, which is worrisome given its further implementation within the platform.

Additionally, xAI, Musk’s other AI company that developed Grok, has received billions of dollars of funding, which shows his willingness to join the AI race. Grok’s launch on X gave it an instant user base and made it an essential component of the platform.
