Starknet Foundation to Conduct STRK Token Airdrop Next Week Across 1.3M Wallets

Earlier today, the Starknet Foundation announced that they would airdrop the STRK token next week on February 20, roughly across 1.3 million eligible wallets. STRK is the native token of the Ethereum layer-2 blockchain Starknet.

As per the foundation, there’s a big user pool that would qualify for the 728 million token airdrop, referred to as “provisions”. Interestingly, these users would get enough time up to June 20, to claim their tokens.

As said, Starknet is an Ethereum Layer-2 blockchain that uses zero-knowledge cryptography. The Starknet foundation noted that the massive airdrop of STRK tokens will help to fuel “community participation and project governance”. In their press release, Diego Olivia, CEO of Starknet Foundation, said:

“The STRK Token was born so that STARK-based scaling can happen in a more decentralized way. The token design helps Starknet to be run and managed by the community, and Provisions is a powerful means to achieve this. Provisions celebrates our community’s hard work in showing how we can and should scale Ethereum for mass adoption”.

Who Will Be Eligible to Claim the STRK Token Airdrop?

In addition to early adopters of Starknet and StarkEx, individuals who have contributed to Ethereum, such as members of the Protocol Guild, authors of Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs), and independent validators, as well as open-source developers from outside the web3 ecosystem, are eligible to claim the token.

The eligibility pool comprises more than half a million Starknet wallets and over 600,000 StarkEx wallets. Furthermore, approximately 137,000 open-source developers and 19,000 ETH validators have met the criteria for eligibility, as per data shared with The Block.

User eligibility for the token distribution was determined based on a snapshot taken in November, considering factors such as transaction volume and frequency of interaction with the network. The criteria included a minimum cumulative transaction value of $100, at least six transactions, and activity recorded across distinct time intervals, each considered as separate conditions.

The distribution plan for the token, overseen by Provisions, represents one of several community initiatives led by contributors to Starknet. Other initiatives include the devonomics program initiated in December and forthcoming incentives such as rebates and subsidies aimed at fostering ecosystem activity.
